Tropical storm "Lionrock" and Typhoon Kompasu would bring gusty winds and heavy rainfalls to Dongguan this week, Dongguan Meteorological Bureau warned on Monday (Aug 30).The storm "Lionrock" which began Sunday (August 29) morning within the South China Sea, was moving northeast at a speed of five to 10 kilometers per hour, said the National Meteorological Center (NMC) in a statement on its web site.Its center was situated about 410 kilometers south of Shantou City,silk cufflinks Guangdong Province, at 11 a.m. Sunday. It's expected to impact Dongguan by bringing heavy rains from September 2 to September three.Typhoon Kompasu would also make land on Dongguan this week. With the two stroms, Dongguan would see a windy and rainy week, observatories said.Flood control authorities in Dongguan on Monday reminded nearby residents to pay attention to weather forecasts and guard against flash floods that may be triggered by the storm.

Tropical storm Meranti will bring torrential rains to southern parts of China from Thursday evening and over 6,000 individuals have been relocated for fear of rain-triggered accidents.Torrential rains will pound parts of Fujian, Guangdong, Taiwan, Guangxi and Hainan within the 24 hours to 8 a.m. Friday, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said in a statement Thursday morning.A total of 6,299 individuals have been relocated to secure areas in east China's Fujian Province, said provincial flood control officials.Also, the Xiamen-Jinmen shipping line, linking the mainland and Taiwan, suspended its service at 6 p.m. All of the beaches in Xiamen City of Fujian had been also closed at 6 p.m., based on municipal flood control officials.The storm was situated 450 kilometers off the coast of Xiamen, within the northeastern component of the South China Sea at five a.m. Thursday. Further, the storm was packing wind gusts of 90 kilometers per hour near its center at four p.m., based on officials.The storm is expected to create landfall on the southern coastal regions sometime between Thursday evening and noon Friday.The CMA statement urged ships to be recalled to port and ordered the reinforcement or removal of structures vulnerable to powerful winds.The statement also warned nearby authorities to prepare for feasible flooding.

No casualties have been reported.

The center downgraded the torrential rain alert to blue, the lowest level, from yellow, as rains that hammered south China in recent days eased.Under a blue alert, governments along with other authorities ought to prepare for torrential rains.
